Opportunities to serve on the Alabama Board of Nursing

CALL FOR APPLICANTS FOR ALABAMA BOARD OF NURSING EXPIRING TERMS 12/31/2023

The Alabama State Nurses Association is pleased to announce a call for applicants for Alabama Board of Nursing (ABN) members whose terms will expire on 12/31/2023. The following are the anticipated vacancies:

• Nurse Educator #1 –NOT eligible for reappointment
• Nurse Educator #2 – eligible for reappointment

Criteria

Qualified applicants must be United States citizens and Alabama residents in addition to meeting the criteria listed below as specified in Alabama statutes Section 34-21-2:

• Graduate of a state approved educational program for the preparation of practitioners of professional nursing,
• Currently licensed as a professional nurse in Alabama,
• Minimum of 5 (five) years successful nursing experience in an administrative, teaching, clinical capacity, or advanced practice nursing role,
• Actively engaged in professional nursing in Alabama immediately preceding and during appointment.

Term of Service

The ABN term of service on the board is 4 years and each member may apply for 1 additional 4-year term. No ABN member may serve more than 2 consecutive terms.

Time Commitment

Potential applicants should discuss the time commitment required for board service with their employers. Anticipated time commitment as follows:

• Six 2-day meeting each year,
• 4-6 1-day meetings each year,
• Special committee meeting obligations,
• Board representation at state, regional, or national meetings,
• Survey and evaluation of schools of nursing.

Compensation

ABN service is a volunteer privilege without salary. The ABN votes annually on compensation for ABN members when on official business that usually coincides with the state agency per diem rate.
